TERM 6

Hope you all had a lovely start to the to the final half term of the year! Wow the year is nearly over. 

Our main topic of the term is still the Egyptians and our 3D Art projects will be based on them.

The science topic has moved onto Plants and their structure. 

PE will continue to be done on a Tuesday and Thursday. Tuesday will be Athletics with Dom and Thursday wll be Rounders with Mr Cosford. 

The Children will be continuing with Music on a Tuesday afternoon with Mrs Collins

If you can offer any help or resources with any of the topics being studied this term please come and speak to us. Volunteers are always welcome.

We will be exploring the value of honesty this term.

English

In English we will be using the story ‘The Prince of Egypt’ as inspiration. We will be taking ideas from this story to write setting descriptions and non-fiction texts.

Having written our own narratives last term, we will be moving onto writing our own play scripts and information pages.

We will continue to teach SPaG discretely. We will be looking at sentence openers, adjectives to create impact and irregular and regular verbs. Whilst continuing to use the Nelson Handwriting and Spelling schemes of work.

Maths

In Maths we looked at the expanded method for multiplication and division on a number line. We got creative with the method. 

For the rest of the term, we will be focussing on understanding time and fractions of amounts. 

Alongside this, we will be using our previous knowledge to solve more complex problems. Making links in our learning and challenge ourselves with short maths tests. 

Science

In Science, plants and their structure will be our main focus. We will look at growing some cress in different conditions, to see how it affects the growing process. 

PE

Year 3 will have PE twice a week this term. One session will be rounders and this will be run by the teacher. We will be focusing on rules, skills and game play.

Again, please remember that a full PE kit comprises of a white or red t-shirt, shirts or tracksuit bottoms and trainers/pumps. 

French

In French we will be learning to tell the story ‘Maman’. When we are learning this story we will learn the names in French for animals and for rooms in the house. 

Topic

Our History topic this term is the Ancient Egyptians. We will be researching the civilizations of Ancient Egypt. Looking at their culture, their religion, their buildings and their language. This term we will be linking our topic and English, as we will be focusing on the book the ‘Prince of Egypt’.

Philosophy For Children

Children will continue to participate in weekly P4C sessions. During these sessions children generate questions in response to a stimulus. The sessions generally focus on our school values.

Art/D&T

In Art, we will be using a critique style of drawing to draw an Egyptian statue, building or God.

The whole school art project this term has been 3D art. The children decided they wanted to build theirs based on the Egyptians. Every child has been involved in building something for the exhibition. 

Please come along and celebrate the childrens' work. Friday 16th June 1:30 - 3:30pm

PSHCE/RE

In RE, we will be looking at symbols and examining why these are important in different religions. We will also be looking at stories from the Bible. In PHSCE we will be exploring our values.

Homework

Homework will be set once a week on a Wednesday to be returned by the following Tuesday. Weekly spelling lists will be sent home on Monday ready for a spelling test on Friday. Parents are encouraged to hear their children read daily and record this in their reading records. In addition as part of their homework, your child will bring home a Big Talk topic on a Wednesday. Please help your children with this by enjoying discussion time with them so that they have lots of ideas ready to use for their Big Write on a Friday.

Please rememeber to record all reading in the childrens' reading record. So that we can track their progress through books.
